Méribel Ski Holidays

Thanks to an abundance of wooden chalet-style buildings, although purpose-built, pretty Méribel retains the feel of a traditional Savoyard village. With several smart restaurants and bars, this lively resort blends tradition and modernity to spectacular effect.

Enjoy the resort

At the heart of the Three Valleys ski area, this popular destination is made up of the main Méribel Centre and its smaller sister resorts: Méribel Village and Méribel-Mottaret.

If you want to be right amongst the resort’s shops, bars and restaurants, you’ll love staying in Méribel Centre. If the idea of a quieter base appeals, rustic Méribel Village is just 2km away, slightly down the valley.

Wherever you stay, you'll have unbeatable access to the world-class slopes of the Three Valleys. That said, there is plenty to do besides ski. Snow-shoeing, winter horse riding – the list goes on and on. The resort’s Olympic Centre, built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, is the place to go for indoor activities including swimming, climbing and ice skating.

Skiing in Méribel

As the resort's symbol shows, Méribel is at the heart of the Three Valleys, one of the world's most impressive lift-linked networks of pistes and skiable terrain. Nowhere else can quite match the Three Valleys for its convenience, breadth and depth of skiing and Méribel sits snugly in the middle of it all. The pistes and runs are clearly signposted and it's even possible to navigate the Three Valleys entirely on blue and green runs if necessary.

The Chaudanne lift whisks you up the mountain from Méribel Centre in minutes. From here, ride up to Tougnette (2434m) on the west side for access to some superb red runs spreading north towards the fast chairlifts of Roc de Fer and the Ladies' Olympic downhill. Off the back are deserted flanks of off-piste (to ski with a guide) and a couple of classic runs leading down to St Martin de Belleville.

The Méribel valley is orientated north to south so you can ski in the sun all day long. Start your day on the west side somewhere between Roc de Fer and Mont de la Chambre before working your way round to finish off on the sun-kissed slopes of the Saulire peak. All of which will give you countless opportunities to drop into the other valleys.

Après-Ski in Méribel

With a great choice of pubs and clubs and one of the best selections of après bands in the Alps, you'll be hard pushed not to find yourself dancing on a table at least once.

Majestically placed below the Saulire express mid-station, Méribel's Folie Douce offers spectacular shows, champagne and music that you just can't help but dance to. Le Rond Point (affectionately known as the Ronny) consistently remains the place to be after skiing in Méribel. The sun terrace is always packed and most days there is a live band.

Barometer in the centre is always popular and La Taverne has a great happy hour. This area is also the epicentre of the bar scene later on, with Doron Pub and Scott's offering the opportunity for some dancing till late. There are also a few clubs including O'Sullivans.

Over in Méribel Village, the Lodge du Village (or LDV) draws a crowd with a happy hour and live music.

Dining in Méribel

La Fromagerie is of the best restaurants for traditional Savoyard food in Méribel. Pizzeria L'Igloo is a good value option serving pizzas, pasta and burgers and La Galette, as its name suggests, serves savoury crêpes.

Aux Petits Oignons is a cosy restaurant renowned for its high standard of cooking and La Taverne is lively and atmospheric with an innovative and extensive menu.

At the higher end of the scale, the highly-regarded Blanchot up at Altiport has a good menu selection. L'Ekrin is the Michelin-starred restaurant at the 5-star Hotel Le Kaila and offers exquisite gourmet dining in an intimate modern setting; its sister restaurant Le 80 offers a more informal option.

La Terrasse at the Lodge du Village in Méribel Village is especially popular with families and offers pizza and pasta dishes.

Activities in Méribel

As well as skiing there is a wide choice of activities available in Méribel. You can get a view of the resort from the air by paragliding or taking a scenic flight from the local altiport. You can also try snowshoeing and there's also a horse riding centre which can offer ski joering, pony sledging or scenic horse tours in the snow.

Indoor options include a cinema and a bowling centre and you can take the gondola down to Brides Les Bains to visit the spa or casino. The excellent Olympic centre in Méribel Centre has an ice rink, swimming pool, gym and spa centre.
