"Flaine has a great location at the centre of the Grand Massif area and thanks to its altitude, it’s one of the most snow-sure resorts with a short transfer from Geneva. It's perfect for a short break and a stay at the Hotel Terminal Neige Totem comes highly recommended!"
Flaine Ski Holidays
With a fantastic snow record, easy transfer from Geneva and jaw-dropping views across to Mont Blanc, family-friendly Flaine is the most popular resort in the Grand Massif. Love or hate its bold modernist architecture, you can’t argue with the outstanding quality of the skiing.
Enjoy the resort
Flaine is one of France’s most striking purpose-built resorts, with its stark Bauhaus design and distinct apartment buildings now classified as French Historical Monuments. Since the original resort was first built back in the 60s, the village has expanded to include the attractive chalet-style Flaine Montsoleil development, brought to you by the creators of the world-famous resort of Whistler in Canada.
Particularly popular with families, Flaine has a safe, relaxed feel to its predominantly traffic-free streets. You can enjoy a great choice of non-skiing activities like snowshoeing. Or why not make some memories with a breathtaking helicopter flight over the mighty Grand Massif?
Flaine’s après-ski is on the quieter side, centring mainly around its many scenic sun terraces and family-friendly restaurants and bars. Happy hour is a lively affair, after which many visitors find a soft, cosy bed is their idea of bliss.
Explore the slopes
As the fourth largest linked ski area in France, the Grand Massif offers an enormous choice of skiing and snowboarding for all levels. And while the highest point is a relatively modest 2,500m, with 80 percent of slopes facing north, the snow record is fantastic. From dedicated nursery slopes to the legendary runs of the Flaine snow bowl, this amazing ski area will appeal to everyone.
Descend the 14km blue Cascades run from the top of the Grandes Platières lift, or explore some of the area’s wonderful off-piste terrain (with a guide, of course). For advanced skiers, the Combe de Gers is an absolute must with a thigh-burning descent and first-class views.
Where to stay
As Flaine is a purpose-built resort, there’s a great choice of ski-in / ski-out accommodation available, meaning you can maximise your time on the slopes. With such an extensive ski area on your doorstop, you’ll definitely want to explore!

Après-Ski in Flaine
Most of the après in Flaine takes place on its sunny mountain terraces. There are plenty of bars and restaurants lining the base of the slopes and there's normally a great atmosphere.
In Flaine Forum, Brasserie Les Cimes has a large south-facing terrace for après-ski gatherings once the lifts close, and a lively bar with pool table indoors. Hotel Totem has a fantastic cocktail bar and is a great place to kick off your evening with a pre dinner drink.
The bowling alley is a great place for families and big kids to head after dark.
Dining in Flaine
Flaine has a choice of restaurants offering alpine and international cuisine including popular Chez Pierrot. These are almost all family-friendly and laid back. Flaine is not the resort for those demanding Michelin-starred restaurants, although there are plenty of high quality options.
Le Michet adds traditional ambience to the cuisine options as it’s based in a century old shepherd’s hut which has been tastefully renovated. Brasserie Les Cimes offers good value with a wide menu including traditional dishes and pizzas.
L'Eterlou at Residence Les Terrasses d'Eos is also popular and serves tradtional French cuisine and local specialities. L'Ancolie is a mountain chalet-style restaurant complete with roaring fire and offers a warm welcome and a range of traditional dishes. Chez Daniel serves Savoyard specialties too and a great crêpes menu.
Activities in Flaine
With most accommodation offering ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes, the activities in Flaine are mainly centred around skiing. There are, however, alternatives for non-skiers to enjoy.
There's a famous ice driving circuit and school. Helicopter flights are also available, giving you a bird's eye view of the Grand Massif. You'll also find an indoor climbing wall, bowling alley and cinema in resort.

Ski lift passes arrived well in advance of trip and ski here shop was very helpful and friendly. Ski school was great for our four year old daughter as a first time skier. She loved it.

Great to be able to get a room that was perfect for us - I couldn't get that anywhere else (and I really did try!)
