My first taste of skiing was at Hillend dry ski slope in Edinburgh at the age of 7 using leather boots and big long skis with cable bindings – no, really. Amazingly I was hooked from that day, and skiing has become a life-long passion. After college I completed 4 back-to-back seasons in France and Switzerland and qualified as a BASI instructor. I've now worked in the ski industry for 38 years (29 of those with Ski Independence!) and still get the same buzz out of skiing and being in the mountains as I did when I started.

Interesting fact(s):

I once mono-skied a full circuit of the Portes du Soleil including the infamous Swiss Wall, icy T-bar tracks, monster bumps, fast downhills and tight trees to the complete amusement and thorough disdain of my peers, without crying.

What inspires you?

My original inspiration to start skiing was watching the peerless Ingemar Stenmark take on the existing ski establishment in the 1970’s and 80’s on Ski Sunday. His record of 86 World Cup victories held since 1989, was surpassed by the peerless Mikaela Shiffrin on 11 March 2023 who won her 87th World Cup race in Are, Sweden (Stenmark's back yard...).

What's your favourite resort, and why?

My current favourite resort is Revelstoke in BC, Canada. With the biggest vertical in the whole of North America, world-class terrain, a massive snow record, heli-skiing on its doorstep and a funky town with an independent spirit plus a vibe reminiscent of the early days in Whistler, Revelstoke is definitely going to be the ‘next big thing’ in Canadian skiing.
